Fuel Tank Safety – Phase I


This is an internet based training course for Fuel Tank Safety Phase I.

The course content complies with Appendix IV to AMC 145.A.30(e) and 145.B.10(3) and Appendix XII to AMC M.A.706(f) and AMC1 M.B.102(c).

This course is suitable for initial and refresh training.

Refresher/continuous training is a mandatory requirement every 2 years.

After concluding the training, you can download directly to your computer (pdf format) your Certificate of Recognition and print a copy of it if necessary.

There are no prerequisites for taking this course.

At the end of the course, the trainee must:

• To be familiar with the basic elements of fuel tank system safety issues;

• To be able to give a simple description of the historical background and the elements requiring safety consideration, using common words and showing examples of non-compliance;

• To be able to use typical terms.


According to AMC 145.A.30(e), 145.B.10(3), M.A.706(f) and AMC1 M.B.102(c), this course is designed to group of persons representing the maintenance management structure of the organization, the quality manager and the staff required to quality monitor the organizations Part 145 and Part M, as well as to Personnel of the competent Authorities. 


Module 1

Basic elements of fuel tank safety and history of accidents or incidents.

              1) Basic elements of fuel tank safety issues.

                Fire triangle.

                Flammability.

                Concepts of Fuel Tank Safety.

              2) Brief history of examples of FTS accidents or incidents.

 Module 2

Concepts of fuel tank safety and CDCCL.

Examples of manufacturers documents showing CDCCL items.

              SFAR 88 of the FAA.

            • Harmonization between FAA and EASA.
            • JAA Interim Policy INT POL 25/12.  
            • Ignition prevention program initiatives and goals
            • Identification of unsafe conditions and to correct them. Improvement of fuel tank maintenance).
            • Airworthiness Limitations Items (ALI) and Configuration Deviation Control list (CDCCL). 
            • How to find relevant information. 
            • Use and interpret this information in the various instructions for continuing airworthiness (aircraft maintenance manuals, component maintenance manual, etc.).

Module 3

Examles of fuel tank safety defects.

Examles of TcC holders repair data.

Examles of  maintenance instructions for inspection.


Without final assessment, no examination will be held.

Continuous assessment: during the training some learning control questions will be applied, seeking that students better understand course material.
